Then I remember
When the moon was full and bright
I would take you in the darkness
And do the tango in the night
Tangoooooooooooooo!
"Tango in the Night" is inspired by the Fleetwood Mac album and song of the same name.
Much like the band, what appears to be a perfect marriage of hop (Tango) and beer colour (Dark = Night), actually hides a love triangle between toasty dark malts, clean lager yeast, and modern tropical-forward hops.
When thinking of what to make for GABS 2025, I was in the mood for a dark beer and was really keen on exploring some new hops from regions other than the AU/NZ/US…and I came across Tango from Germany. Its a dual purpose hop, when used in the kettle its similar to Perle/Saaz so lends itself to a Czech Dark Lager, but when dry hopped, it has distinct tropical fruit (particularly passionfruit) aroma so could work like a Black IPA.
This can design is a collage made from “The Dream” by Henri Rousseau (1910), which itself was the inspiration for the artwork on the album cover for Tango in the Night - “Homage à Henri Rousseau” by Australian artist Brett-Livingstone Strong.
