Bart and Hugo are two IPAs that were brewed as one, fermented in the same tank, then separated at birth (ie: just before canning) where they developed their own personalities.
The idea came from experimenting with some innovative brewing products such as hop terpenes (aroma), hop extracts (flavour), iso-acid isolates (bittering), and dark malt extracts such as Weyermann Sinamar (colouring)…can we make two distinct beers that were brewed and fermented together? If not, one of these beers will locked away in the attic and fed a bucket of fish heads once a week…

Tango in the Night

Dark & Hoppy Lager

This dark lager was inspired by the Fleetwood Mac album of the same name. And much like the band, what appears to be a perfect marriage of hop (Tango™) and beer colour (Dark = Night) hides a love triangle between toasty dark malts, clean lager yeast, and modern tropical-forward hops -  its like a dry hopped Schwarzbier

“Serendip”

Tropical Stout with Jaggery

We were incredibly honoured to be invited to brew a beer for Carwyn Cellars’ legendary Canvent Calendar — an advent calendar, but with beer. This gave us complete creative freedom: to brew whatever we wanted and to get a little experimental with the can design, too.

And so, Serendip was born. Serendip is an old Persian name for Sri Lanka — my father’s homeland, and the origin of the “-ratne” in Beereratne. It felt like the perfect way to honour both the tropical island and the serendipitous nature of creating a beer for Canvent.

We chose to make a Tropical Stout, a style found in Sri Lanka (think Lion Stout), but with our own twist. We brewed it with jaggery, a traditional sugar made from native palm trees, and layered in a generous dose of tropical hops for a vibrant finish.

For the design, we wanted to create a sense of mystery and discovery. Each Canvent box contained one of twelve unique can designs, each tied to a different tarot card. The only way to see the full set was to compare with friends — or look it up online. Every can included a QR code leading to a fortune linked to its tarot card.
